In 1973, abortion was legalized nationwide. Almost immediately, breast cancer cases jumped almost 40%.
And we’re expected to believe there is no connection.
Right.
//edit: as I suspected, the atheists are predictably pointing out that the graph also shows deodorant sales. Of course, this has absolutely nothing to do with abortion, and the fact that it is there doesn’t change the fact that an increase in breast cancer coincides with the nationwide legalization of abortion.
Wrong, breast cancer does not “jump almost 40%” in 1973. There is a steady upward trend in this graph from about 1965-2000. The increasing trend starts before abortion legalization, and the slope of the graph does not dramatically increase in the mid 70’s.
Look at the graph again, dummy. Starting in 1973, there is a huge jump of almost 40% continuing until 1975. You are a moron for not seeing the obvious.
LOOK GUYS!
PIRATES CAUSE GLOBAL WARMING!
Bahahaha. There is no correlation whatever. And wait, the blue line is about deodorant sales. Are you fucked, sir?
…this guy DOES know that people were still getting abortion before Roe V Wade, right….? Like, they were getting an equal amount of abortions than when it was legal, they just stopped dieing from them and stuff…?
Abortions have been around since, like, the fucking stone age. Also, no actually legitimate unbiased scientific organization recognizes a link between abortion and breast cancer. but I guess they’re all secretly in cahoots with planned parenthood and shit to get people to get more abortions or something, right?Um. Lots of things happened in 1973. That doesn’t mean that any one of them had something to do with an increase in the incidence of breast cancer. That’s not how causation works.
“as I suspected, the atheists are predictably pointing out that the graph also shows deodorant sales. Of course, this has absolutely nothing to do with abortion, and the fact that it is there doesn’t change the fact that an increase in breast cancer coincides with the nationwide legalization of abortion.”
Yeah we’re pointing it out because it further proves the well known notion that statistical correlation does not imply causation. By your own argument and statistics abortion has as much to do with breast cancer as deodorant sales, in that it has nothing to do with it. Your facts dismiss your own argument, it’s a cum hoc fallacy, do you really not understand that?

Also, if you actually bother to read the legend, that’s not a percentile.
New thing! Some people should not be allowed within fifty feet of a lectern. This blog will aim to show off shining examples of this not-rare-enough breed of professor.

So, it’s been, what? About a year. Well, I figure if I’m bored enough to start reading Dragon Ball Z fanfiction, I’d better do something, fast, and that something is blogging again.
I think you should all know…
… that if you look up “pickles” on the library catalog at my college, the fifth item you get is a video called “Napoleon Bonaparte the glory of France.” I’m not sure if it’s a DVD or a video casset, let alone what it has to do with pickles.
Breaking News of the Day: Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ) was killed this morning along with at least six others outside a Safeway in Tucson during a “Congress on Your Corner” event after being shot point blank in the head. Several others were wounded in the attack.
Giffords, who was the youngest woman to be elected to the Arizona Senate, thus becomes the first female politician to be assassinated, and the first US rep to be killed in the line of duty since Leo Ryan (D-CA), who was shot by the Jonestown cult.
Some are pointing out that Giffords was on Sarah Palin’s gun-sighted “hit list” (above / source), but, though the gunman is reportedly in custody, their motives are not known at this time.
RIP.

I can’t wrap my head around this story. Thoughts go out to all those mourning and all those affected by this. Very sad day. RIP Rep. Giffords.
Seconded- I can’t even figure out what to think about this either.
Wow.

Happy article for all of the tumblr librarians:
What she doesn’t do much of is sit behind a desk, checking out books. There isn’t time. A school librarian today is a guide to finding information, an ethicist on everything from plagiarism to cyberbullying, an adviser, a teacher, and, in Dobrez’s case, a dispenser of “bibliotherapy” – matching the right book with the right kid.
“Books to me are a safe way to explore some of that dangerous minefield that’s out there,” she says.
I have a new favorite classic movie.
It’s a 1932 production called Hook and Ladder and it appears to be about five-year-old firefighters. They have a wooden fire engine, which is powered by a small fluffy dog on a treadmill. I don’t actually plan to watch this movie, but I caught part of it on Turner Classic Movies (because Mom always has that on) and it is now my favorite.
But seriously, there are black and white kids playing (with fire) together. That’s pretty impressive for 1932.
Benny just tried to get into Izzy’s crate.
I’ve already posted this to Izzy Gets Big, but it deserves all the coverage I can give it, because Benny-dog is approximately five times Izzy-dog’s size.
AAAAAAAHHHHHH
I want a puppy, and a monkey to take care of it and protect it from intruders.
Reblog if you’re a girl and you play video games.
I feel alone on this as well.
